The Ukraine War Consequences Work Group (UWEC Work Group), with the support of Reporters without Borders Sweden and Svea Green Foundation, conducted the third webinar in its series dedicated to the environmental and climate consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The topic of the third webinar was the environmental consequences of the destruction of the dam at Kakhovska Hydroelectric Power Plant that happened in early June 2023. UWEC experts and journalists have extensively covered the topic in following articles, published on the UWEC website:

During the webinar UWEC experts Oleksii Vasyliuk and Eugene Simonov shared their assessment of the current and anticipated environmental damage, bringing in evidence both from satellite and on-the-ground data, as well as scientific and environmental assessment estimations.
Bellona’s nuclear power expert Dmitry Gorchakov told participants about the impact of the dam’s destruction on the safety of operations at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (Europe’s largest) located on the shores of the now former Kakhovka reservoir.
Ukrainian journalist and expert Viktoria Hubareva also analyzed Ukrainian media coverage of the dam’s destruction and subsequent environmental consequences.
The webinar was held in Russian, with the simultaneous translation in English available. The presentations and webinar recordings are available in both languages on the UWEC website as well.
